School-Based Lessons

Not all schools in San Diego County have the resources to provide robust, well-rounded environmental science education to their students during the school day. Our programming provides fun, educational Next Generation Science Standards-aligned lessons, delivered by EDI staff, to help support schools in fulfilling their science requirements.

Thanks to funding from California State Park’s Outdoor Equity Grants Program, EDI offers fun science and nature activities for kids during classroom hours and after school! Our program consists of nine 1-hour lessons, each focusing on a different environmental science topic. We meet students where they are and each lesson is provided on-site, including a variety of educational activities such as hands-on science experiments, nature-based arts and crafts, schoolyard nature exploration, and more!

Our program is designed to start with the basics of being a scientist, and build each week to more complicated topics. Our themes are:

CAMPING 101

During the summer, studies have shown that students can experience learning loss. To help mitigate this issue, we are excited to bring our programming to Cajon Valley Union School District’s Camp Cajon summer school program as well as the El Cajon Branch County Library. In addition to helping address summer learning loss, our summer programming helps us access a wider audience and inspires a love of nature exploration all summer long!
