On the Open Ocean

We took 76 east county community members on a private Whale Watching tour with San Diego Whale Watch this month! One of our favorite parts of these open ocean adventures is that a certified marine biologist joins in on the fun, providing us with loads of fun facts about San Diego's incredible ocean ecosystems, and of course that includes lots of information about whales! While we didn't actually see any whales on this excursion, we still enjoyed a beautiful, warm morning together spotting dolphins and soaking in the sunshine!

EDI is thrilled to offer events like this as part of our Education Through Recreation program. This program is funded by the Outdoor Equity Grants Program, created through AB 209 and administered by California State Parks, Office of Grants and Local Services.

RCD Restoration Rendezvous

In partnership with Resource Conservation District, we hosted three successful planting events! The Agave Lab, Barron Creek Farm, and Hidden Valley Farm each now have growing pollinator habitat to continue supporting pollinators alongside their farms. We love collaborating with other organizations to make a difference, and can't wait to see progress pictures down the road.

Mt. Helix Nature Day

As always, we had an incredible time participating in Mt. Helix Nature Day! The sunny weather brought lots of families out to learn about nature, IN nature, and we loved to see how many kiddos were eager to participate in our Monarch Butterfly life cycle activity. 🥚🐛🦋 We are so grateful for the opportunity to participate in events like this that bring community together!

Last Torrey Pines Event for the School Year

We hosted our last Torrey Pines family day event of the school year this month! We love showing community members the incredible nature our coast has to offer along this extension trail of Torrey Pines and are constantly being told "we never knew this existed!" The view from the top of the trail blows people away and we can't get enough of it, either. It's also a huge treat when docents join us and share invaluable knowledge about the area. We can't wait for more adventures like this next school year!

EDI is on TikTok!

We are excited to share one of our amazing field instructors, Sabrina, has created a TikTok page for EDI. This is new social media territory for us and we are so grateful Sabrina has the expertise to create content for us! If TikTok is your thing, please consider giving us a follow @EDIExplorers!

Private Bird Walk

We led a private migratory bird hike for an amazing donor who won this experience during our silent auction at our fundraiser last November! He invited friends and colleagues to join in on the fun, and we were greeted with clear skies and lots of shorebird sightings! Events like these bring friends and community members closer together, all while soaking in fresh air and beautiful sights from some of San Diego's natural wild spaces.

If you're ever interested in a guided experience like this, visit our "Corporate Retreats" page under the "Get Involved" drop-down in the menu on our website! These opportunities are not just for corporations, but any group or organization looking to get out in nature with a little help along the way. We would love to host an event like this for you!
