HANNAH PALMER

Hannah is an Ornamental Horticulture student at Cuyamaca College. She graduates this June with A.S. degrees in Nursery Technology, Landscape Technology, and Sustainable Urban Landscapes. Hannah will be transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall to complete a B.S. in Plant Science with a concentration on Environmental Horticulture Science. She is thrilled to start this new chapter in her educational journey and hopes to continue working in the horticulture field, especially in public parks and gardens. Hannah currently works at the Water Conservation Garden as a landscape and facilities assistant, but she has been a lifelong gardener. Her first introduction to horticulture was tending to a spring vegetable garden each year with her grandmother. She can often be found playing with her dog Odie or tending to her many houseplants!

Luke studies Molecular and Cellular Biology with a secondary in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard College. Gaining a spark for the environment through watching pillbugs during recess at Marvin Elementary, he grew by competing in an Entomology event for the Science Olympiad in middle school and acquired a National Audubon Society's field guide to insects and spiders that would rarely leave his side, particularly on walks through Mission Trails! This appreciation grew further through high school leading him to his current studies focused on the mechanics of genetics and evolution. To continue igniting passion in the next generation, he is a member of the Harvard Science Olympiad Club, helping orchestrate the regional competition, providing study resources and materials for schools, and writing exams for events like Forestry, Meteorology, and, of course, Entomology.
