Asilia is a non-binary Oaxacalifornian born in Oaxaca and raised in San Diego county. Having deep ancestral roots to land stewardship, they hope to make the most of this generational passion and love for the planet and their communities. Asilia became invested in the fields of agroecology during the initial surge of the COVID pandemic. Having lots of time inside during lockdown they began to grow their very own subsistence garden. Since then, Asilia has grown with many community gardens in Santa Cruz and San Diego county as well as with small-scale commercial farmers. Currently two of their passion projects include tending to Mat Ichech Gardens located adjacent to the Centro Cultural de La Raza in Balboa Park as well as co-stewarding a tool library collective. They are also an aspiring seed steward farmer, currently stewarding a variety of vegetable, culinary and fruit crops (including native Californian and Oaxacan plants). La lucha es por la vida! The fight (the work) is for (& about) life!
